The last night of this trip, I got back to Ho Chi Minh from Hanoi by myself (my friends were traveling for a few more days). My flight was at 2:30pm the next day so I made some plans for the rest of the time that I could use.
The next morning, I got up pretty early (obviously not that early cuz my breakfast had already been prepared by the host by the time I walked out to the living room). After breakfast, I took my host’s advice to request a ubermoto to take me to “the pink church”. “We should support ubermotos instead of cars! They are convenient and cheap,” she said.
It was exciting and sometimes a bit scary to motorbike in Ho Chi Minh’s messy streets. But those riders are all skillful so there isn’t any real danger. And it is actually easier and faster to travel by motorbike since there’s always heavy traffic in Ho Chi Minh. I would definitely use it often when I travel alone without big luggage.
16 mins, 19,000VND (about 0.84USD), I arrived at my destination — Nhà Thờ Tân Định.
Actually I was dropped off on the opposite side of the church. When you’re with a group of people, it isn’t so hard to cross a street without traffic light. I didn’t know what to do while those vehicles were all going so fast and non-stop. Suddenly, a guardman worked nearby came grab my hand and took me across the street. How romantic?! HAHA (That’s why I really like Vietnamese. They are very lovely and kind-hearted.)
The moment I saw the church and it’s beautiful color, my breath was taken away! NO-FILTER NEEDED. Nhà Thờ Tân Định is a Catholic church built in 19C by French. To know more about it’s history I recommend you to visit this page: http://www.historicvietnam.com/tan-dinh-church/
It is a place you can walk around to see the elegant architecture and some stunning, lifelike sculptures. Many things are painted pink there. You feel romantic, peaceful and joyful.
YES, this is a must-see in Ho Chi Minh.
